Comparing quotes?

Eight questions to ask any installer, and our answers.

Two quotes for the same size can be two very different plants. These answers are where the difference shows.
  1. 01What is the panels-to-inverter ratio, and why?

    ✕ Not stated

✓1.25 to 1.30, so the inverter works near its best for more of the day

  2. 02Which panel and inverter, on which datasheet?

    ✕ A make “or equivalent”

✓Named in the offer, designed from their latest Indian datasheets

  3. 03Where does the inverter sit?

✕ Wherever there is room, with long DC runs

✓Beside the panels, with the AC run to your nearest LT panel

  4. 04What size is each cable, and its voltage drop?

    ✕ “As required”

✓On the drawing, every run checked

  5. 05Are string fuses needed, and what surge protection is fitted?

✕ The same kit for every plant

✓Worked out for this plant from its currents

  6. 06How many earth pits, and why that many?

    ✕ A round number

✓From your fault current and your soil

  7. 07Does the arrester reach the whole array?

✕ A count, with no reach shown

    ✓Checked to its far corners

  8. 08Are the units guaranteed, at P50 or P90?

✕ The panels only, or a P50 figure

    ✓Units at P90, in writing

The Altus app

Our own design software, from your bill to the build.

Most plants are priced from the last job’s figures. Ours are worked out fresh: sized within your transformer and contracted demand, every part checked, and one design runs through the drawings, the BOM and the price.

The Altus units guarantee

Most offersThe panels are guaranteed
An Altus offerThe units are guaranteed, at P90

Your offer states the units your plant will make in a poor year: the P90 figure, which it should beat nine years in ten. If a year comes in more than 5% below it, we inspect the plant and put the cause right at our cost: parts, labour and our engineers’ time. It is a promise to fix, not a cash refund.

Worked out from your site’s own sunshine, temperatures and losses, and checked against our PVsyst reports. We have been engineering since 1984; we’ll be here to keep it.

Built on the mill’s own land in two stages: 1.21 MWp in 2022, then 1.34 MWp in 2025 of bifacial panels raised over a white reflective membrane, anchored by hand into rocky ground. The membrane bounces light onto the panels’ backs.

What people ask us

It depends on your tariff and on how much you use in daylight. Plan my solar works it out from your monthly units and contracted demand, with your HT or LT tariff. Ground and industrial plants typically pay back in 3 to 4 years, commercial rooftops in 3 to 5, and the plant then runs for 25.

Our figures, explained
  • 25+ MW, 60+ plants: our own project list, homes to 4 MW ground plants, since our first solar work.
  • Prices and monthly figures: our design software’s cost model for a typical terrace, with GST, November 2026; loans at 7% over 10 years.
  • Subsidy: PM Surya Ghar (MNRE, February 2024): ₹30,000 a kW for 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third, on DCR panels.
  • Savings: TNERC tariff order 6 of 2025, TNPDCL’s network charges and 200 free units for homes; 1,480–1,560 units a year per kWp by town.
  • P90 units: worked from the site’s sunshine, temperatures and losses, and checked against our PVsyst reports.
  • Payback after tax: savings and upkeep taxed at 25%, with 40% depreciation on the written-down value.
